I am currently the Spanish editor at IJNet.org, a website published by the International Center for Journalists (ICFJ) in seven languages. IJNet publishes training opportunities for journalists and stories about journalism, media trends, technology and experts’ advice. 

As the Spanish editor, I am responsible for updating the site daily, editing and writing stories in Spanish, translating stories from English to Spanish, monitoring traffic and managing IJNet Spanish‘s social media presence.

I have a degree in Journalism from ORT University, Uruguay, and while I was still studying I started working in journalism, first for Observa.com and then for El Observador, a national daily newspaper in my country. I worked for a magazine publisher and also collaborated doing research for a non-fiction book  called “Penarol Neighborhood. Railway Industrial Heritage.”

My job at El Observador allowed me to cover all sorts of topics over the years. Although my beat was to cover Montevideo’s mayor, I covered a quadruple homicide in a small rural area in Uruguay, I got the chance to follow Uruguay’s president during his visit to the U.S., which included a news conference he held in the State Department with Hillary Clinton, among other things.

After working in Uruguay for almost three years, I moved to the United States in 2008 to pursue a master’s degree. I’m currently working toward a Master of Journalism in multimedia journalism at the Philip Merrill College of Journalism at the University of Maryland.

In the summer of 2009 I interned in the communications department at the Young Americas Business Trust, an international non-profit organization that works in cooperation with the Organization of American States (OAS). The YABT promotes the development of young entrepreneurs through various training programs in Latin America and the Caribbean.

I wrote press releases in Spanish and English, organized the monthly newsletter and other press materials and helped with the organization of various events.
